Thanks for your strong support
I’ve been really humbled by all the support I’ve received from union members since I announced my decision yesterday. Queenslanders and people working in the public sector – whether they are party political or not – have told me they agree with what I’ve done and with what I’ve been saying about making our political system work again.
In case you missed it, I did an interview with ABC News 24 that’s available on ABC News Online – take a look at the video.
It was a tough decision for me to walk away from my many years of political party involvement, leaving behind many friends and colleagues, and the fact that so many of you have phoned or emailed me to congratulate me means a lot. It’s convinced me I made the right decision – there are thousands of people, inside and outside political parties, who are disenchanted with our political system and want to stand up for something positive.
I’ve seen members of my union, and members of community groups come together, delivering their energy, their commitment and time, again and again in support of positive changes and building a better society. The problem in building better politics is the parties, not the people in the community - I know there are many people out there who are eager and willing to help.
Lots of people have said in their emails to me “I hope others take a stand as well”. I agree, and I hope we can keep the conversation going about how to bring about positive changes.
I&’m still pretty new to twitter, but you can follow me on there if you like, and you can also email me at alex@qpsu.org.
Thanks again for supporting me and please feel free to pass this blog around to your friends and colleagues. I know that together we can create a movement for change in Queensland.
They say that when the people lead the leaders have to follow. Let’s see whether or not it is true.
